Small businesses owned by veterans in Charleston, South Carolina, have a chance to earn $5,000 small business grants to help them either launch or continue a small business operation. The SCORE program is open to local active or inactive/retired U.S military personal who are either in the process of, or are currently operating, a recent small business start-up.

The SCORE Association was created by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) as “Counselors to America’s Small Business.” The nonprofit association is comprised of 13,000+ volunteer business counselors throughout the U.S. and its territories. SCORE members serve as counselors, advisors and mentors to entrepreneurs and business owners across the country. The Veterans Small Business Grant Program was created by SCORE to offer help to veterans who often experience difficulty in obtaining funds to start a business.

Qualifications

Small businesses must be located within the Charleston tri-county area and must be in the process of starting or have started a business within the past two years. Veterans can be currently serving, or have served, in any branch of the military. Eligible veterans may apply online. Submission deadline is June 1, 2017.
