Vermont Health Department Offering Grants to Small Businesses Who Support Breastfeeding
The state of Vermont boasts an impressive 90 percent of women who breastfeed. In fact, they are 5th in the nation when it comes to the number of women who breastfeed, according to the 2014 Breastfeeding Report Card by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Now they want to reward small businesses who support breastfeeding by giving them free grant money through the Supporting Nursing Moms at Work Grant Program.

Grants available to Breastfeeding Friendly Employers

Small employers in the state of Vermont who have 100 or fewer employees may apply for a $1,000 grant through the Vermont Department of Health. The grants are being funded by the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO). Grant money will enable qualifying employers to provide women with a private, clean place to express breast milk for their child.

A total of 15 grants will be awarded. While it is a state and federal law that requires businesses to allow female employees time and a private space for them to express breast milk, the grants will encourage more women to breastfeed and provide them with a comfortable space at work to express breast milk.

The deadline for the grant applications is February 20, 2015.
