Every year, Amazon invites entrepreneurs to enter the Amazon Web Services Global Start-Up Challenge contest. Last year, the company selected four winners, and each one won $50,000 plus another $50,000 in AWS credits, AWS Support services for one year. The annual contest awards winners in four business categories: gaming, consumer applications, business applications, and high performance computing.
About 2500 companies from 85 countries enter the competition each year. Start-up companies from around the world are invited to enter. From all the applications. 24 semi-finalists are chosen, and from this group, 12 finalists are selected. The finalists go to the final round where they attend the AWS Start-Up Challenge finale event. It is at this event where finalists make presentations to the judges and the winners are selected.
Businesses submitting entries are judged on their creativity and originality. The businesses must demonstrate strong self-sufficiency and the potential for growth and long-term success. Their business presentations are also judged on how well they fill a need in the marketplace, utilizing Amazon Web Services solutions.
