The Philadelphia Foundation was established in 1918 as a non-profit organization giving funds to local citizens to help build the community. Today their mission remains the same to provide funding that will build safe communities throughout Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties.

Grants range from $3,000 to $40,000 for small businesses located in one of the five Philadelphia counties. Organizations must be at least three years old, non-profit, with operating budgets not exceeding $10 million, with priority given to organizations with less than $5 million operating budget. The nature of the business must be to serve low-income residents of Philadelphia.

The Foundation gives grants to non-profit organizations that offer services which improve opportunities for children, youth, families, help find solutions for social justice concerns, promote community development, and foster arts and culture. At least 33 percent of people served must be low income.

The grant money is for general operating support, such as activities related to the mission of the business, capital campaigns and endowments. Grants are up to 8 percent of the organization's operating budget, up to a grant of $40,000.
